Bus services are limited, so a car is almost essential.
Direct flights serve the area's airports - but each route doesn't operate every day.
Faugères is about an hour's drive from Montpellier airport, 75 minutes from Carcassonne and 30 minutes from Béziers/Cap d'Agde airport.
Shuttle buses link Toulouse airport with the town's railway station with an hourly service to Narbonne and connections to Béziers.
Hiring a car is probably most convenient.
France's TGV routes link Paris and Lille with Montpellier, Agde and Béziers.
However, the old, slow 'Aubrac' route (which takes nearly 10 hours) through central France still runs - although changing trains is necessary at Clermont Ferrand - via Millau and the Viaduc de Garabit.
The nearest railway station is Bédarieux - but the nearest car hire offices are in Béziers!
The SNCF website was updated at the start of 2022 and is in English.
The German railways website lists services across Europe while the www.seat61.com site offers an alternative.
Bus services to and from Béziers and Bédarieux are limited. However one early morning bus is relatively convenient for a train to Paris and another, in the afternoon, connects Béziers station with Faugères.
The timetable is online at www.herault-transport.fr/sites/default/files/fiches-horaires/ligne-rg/655-FH-accessible.pdf
Driving from the Channel Tunnel or a major ferry port takes at least 10 hours on the main motorways. Breaking the drive is recommended. (You will see more of France than service areas.) Motorway tolls between Faugères and the Channel can total more than €50. (Prices increased in February 2022.)
All cars in France must carry high visibility jackets, warning triangle signs and an approved breathalyser.
The 'car club' concept of renting 'shared' vehicles by the hour has reached the Occitanie region. The Modulauto chain has pick-up points in Montpellier, Narbonne, Perpignan, Nîmes and Sète. They can be contacted by e-mail or phone: +33/0 4 6758 0606 from 09h00-18h00 (Monday-Saturday) and 10h30-13h00 on Sundays.
